What if, We couldn't recog nise - nize

Okay new brief fresh start.
i have chosen to answer the brief which simply is to design a a6 postcard for the word 'Recognition'

To answer this problem i chose a strapline which is:

What if we couldn't recognize?

Which leaves a open question and makes the mind ponder.
my aim is to entertain, i thought about well known sites around the world
and i illustrated them in various ways to state how we dont need the details to recognize what they are:

After i carried out these images i then thought what else i could investigate into, it was then i thought wait what if everyday consumer products were mistaken for other items, so i manipulated images after a few sketches and came up with a few consumer product false advertisments

After these were carried out my crit group suggested concequences would be a great factor to look at, so i did and here are a few start up images i carried out etccccc

So after i designed the idea for this i thought a mock up would be an interesting way to investigate the project so i took a few photos of what i had made!

over all i believe this mock up turned out very well and looks really effective!

and so far these are my final concepts ready for the crit tomorow

Self Evaluation

What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

Throughout the module, I believe i have developed a grate understanding and knowledge in how to use programs such as indesign photoshop and illustrator to a new degree of management.
Don't get me wrong i am no expect, far from it but i am on my way to becoming skillful on these programs.

Throughout my book of 100 'Light Links' CS2 Photoshop has been beneficial to my design process, as i have been manipulating my edited drawings on it and altering the colours, tones and sharpness etc.

Before this module if you told me to make a book I would be lost, however now i have learnt how to make different kinds of books and bind them in interesting and fun ways which are rare in my eyes as well as individual/ practical.

What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have improved my understanding on what research is suppose to do and how necessary it is in backing up your final project/ concept. It is the strongest value to have in the design process i would say as it depends upon the strength of that to declare the outcome you produce. As well as this i have learned that organize and categorize ing are key objects used in the deign process and these factors are the structure at telling a story of where you have started, the ideas you have chosen and where you have finished/ are at the present moment in time.

What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I have discovered that i have a great strength in gathering research and acting upon it with different concepts and ideas within it's roots.

What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

Everything is my weakness, it is upon learning from mistakes i have made to develop and improve upon these to make it a weaker weakness. there is always room for improvement.
At the moment i believe that i need to buckle down on concepts at hand and show a greater understanding upon them as i seam to have a bit of a gap between developing and doing things which is not sustainable or exceptable in my eyes.

Identify five things you would do differently next time and what you expect to gain from doing these?

1. As everyone will say, the number one thing is management of time, as there isn't a great amount of work to show for this being a five week project.
2. I need to stick to a concept that way i will have something to actually develop from.
3. I need to document my work so i know when i have done it.
4. I need write a week plan out and set mini deadlines so i do not fall behind
5. I need to follow the above.

Are there any things we could have done differently that would have benefitted your progress?

Well i do believe i have been misinformed in crits in what i was actualy suppose to be changing. as i attempted to make a different book, which i then was told "a waste of time" then i was told to stick with the original idea, then i was told i should try something i was originally going to do in the first place in the final crit which didn't impress me much at all.

How would you grade yourself on the following areas
(5 excellent 4 very good 3 good 2 average 1 poor)

Attendance 4 (before christmas) 4 (after christmas)
Motivation 3
Punctuality 3
Commitment 3
Quantity of work produced 3
Quality of work produced 3
Contribution to the group 4

Catagorise organise

bit of a late bloggg but basically during this project i have learned all about catogorising and order
it has been a pain as it is something i'm not overwhelmed by doing although it has taught me alot about my own work and that everything has a order of relevance. my photographs have been catogorised in a urban journey through leeds.

Our group was split up into 3's myself Heather and Tom were a group and organised Hannah and another member of our class's photos. we organised them alphabetically and one as things which linked together i.e. toys, jewlery, clothes, people etc.
here are a few photos i stole off Heather ;)

yup

During a crit i was told to dumb my idea down abit but i was struggling in ways to do this, so what i did wassss i deleted the majority of colours and used a red amber green colour scheme
poet ;)

same as a traffic light if your not clicking....
but i decided it might be cool to try some packaging and to change the piece into a colour book sooo here are a few photo graphs of the outcome. im not overly impressed with it but its developing stage by stage.

after this was complete i made my final book but i have not yet bound it and i dont think i will be able to by deadline as i do not own the correct material needed to produce such a bind. sad times.

look at that! i dont even know where my day disapeared too

statement of intent

Title - A line is character
Focus- To produce a set of images/ sketches of landscapes and people visually communicating emotion

My Secondary research basically covers the main factors of the question, 'what is a line?'
I have research that includes the following (in secondary format)

- dictionary, internet and peoples quotes in their response to the question (what is a line?)
- a series of images from unknown artists sketchbooks of landscapes and people
- photographs of people and landscapes
- general information in communication to a lines origin/ facts about lines.

My Primary research will include ( - if it is done           * if it is to be done):

- a series of images hand drawn and mixed media in communication to the question
- A statistical structure of peoples feelings toward the question (do you  think a line is character)
- photographs of people and landscapes
* a series of sketches and drawings in relation to landscapes around leeds with different characters. i.e. rough area's dirty, graffeti, homeless (generally shortcuts) to nicer areas such as the university area leading into the town center.
* 360 degree drawing (panaramic shot feel)
* a answer to my question

I plan to use mixed media featuring ink, crayon, chalk, papers, cards, pencils, fine liners etc
i will use the internet and books as resources, i plan to use internet software such as photoshop, illustrator and maybe some more i am not familiar with.
I will be using my olympus SLR for photographs with the added fixtures of Lens's and filters to bring out the feel and flow of the images i am taking, i will also scan in most of my work to edit it further on programs to manipulate them and make them better.

For this project i will document my work with:

rolls of paper (continuous journey drawing varied lengths)
A2 Design sheets
A4 Sketchbook
My blog
etc
